Track 1

Dorian Gray’s voicemail

Hello, this is the house of Dorian Gray. There’s no one in right now. Don’t forget to leave me a message. If you’re interesting, I’ll get back to you.

*Deep breaths*

Woman 女人

Ahhhhhhhh!

*Glass shatters and laughs*

Richard理查德

And here we are!

Joe

Here ta-

Sophia

Shh! Hush!

Richard 理查德

Why bother? It’s not like there’s anyone around. Whole street of houses owned by people too rich to live in them. Advance to Mayfair!

Joe

Hahaha... I’m gonna instagramthe hell out of this.

Sophia

Of course you are. Do you think there’s a bathroom somewhere? I’m busting!

Richard 理查德

We’re in a mansion. Of course there’s a bathroom.

Sophia

Yeah, but you know, there might not be water. How long has it been like this?

Joe

Well, the lights work. I don’t know, like, a year?

Richard 理查德

The owner’s been missing for two. It’s been shut upever since.

Joe

Missing? Well, I heard they found him in a beanbag.

Sophia

Ew!

Joe

Yeah! Eaten by rats!

Richard 理查德

That’s just the rumor.

Joe

Yeah, but...

Richard 理查德

He vanished, officially he’s a missing person.

Joe

A very rich missing person.

Sophia

Yeah! I mean, look at this place. How much do you think it’s worth? Why hasn’t anyone bought it?

Richard 理查德

You’ve got to wait 7 years till you declare someone dead, and then there’s relatives.

Sophia

Oh I found the loo! Back in a mo. Result! The light works! Oh thank you god!

Richard理查德

Can’t believe you got here to come along.

Joe

Wrapped around my little finger, well, she will be later.

Richard 理查德

You are disgusting.

Joe

And you are wasted.

Richard 理查德

Oh yeah, I’m only tiny, goes to my head quickly. You were in there, you know, with Sophia.

Joe

I know.

Sophia

Can't believe we got in here so easily.

Richard 理查德

Well, yeah, it's a bit of a mess, been looted, clearly.

Joe

Well, still it’s in good nick, ah well considering. Wonder if there’s any booze left?

Sophia

God. Imagine what it would be like living here.

Richard 理查德

Are you moving in?

Sophia

People do. Beats my student pod. All these space.

Joe

Smell.

Richard理查德

Probably rats.

Sophia

Oh don’t.

Richard理查德

Kidding.

Sophia

You so aren’t.

Joe

In London, yeah, you’re never more than three feet from a rat.

Sophia

Closer if you’re standing next to Richard.

Richard 理查德

I didn’t have to bring you.

Sophia

Funny. In a house like this, you’d expect there to be lots of pictures, but there aren’t any.

Joe

Maybe they’re in storage.

Richard理查德

Or they’ve been burnt. It’s freezing here.

Sophia

Oh it’s getting colder. I knew I should have brought a coat.

Joe

Oh hey, I’ve only got a scrunchy poncho. It’s not much but…

Sophia

Thanks!

Richard 理查德

Anything else? Sandwiches and tinfoil? Pickled egg, and a flask of tea?

Sophia

Oh god, I could kill for tea.

Joe

Oh and toast. If there’s no wine.

Richard 理查德

Let’s look around first, just upstairs…

Sophia

Have you got bread back at home?

Joe

Yeah.

Sophia

You’re on. Come on! Let’s get back.

Richard 理查德

Hey!

*Phone ringing*

Track 2

Dorian Gray’s voicemail

Hello, this is the house of Dorian Gray. There’s no one in right now. Don’t forget to leave me a message. If you’re interesting, I’ll get back to you. (Phone noises then deep breaths)

Richard理查德

Listen.

Sophia

Just an old line.

Richard 理查德

No, no, it’s not.

Joe

There’s one way to settle this. It’s a tape, we can play it back.

*Phone noises* If only we control...

Joe

There!

Voice from the phone

Leave me right now. Leave me right now.

Sophia

Oh my god!

Joe

Securing guard?

Richard理查德

Yeah, yeah right.

Sophia

We should go.

Joe

Toast.

Richard理查德

Oh, come on! It’s... It’s just a voice, probably a nosy neighbour. Let’s just have a quick look around, then go, yeah?

Sophia

Actually, I’m really kind of done.

Joe

Rich, mate, it’s like you’ve never seen a horror movie before.

Sophia

Ah... It’s stuck!

Joe

Yeah, jammed.

Richard理查德

What? Stop joking,. it’s just... stuck fast.

Sophia

Maybe it’s stiff, or a dead bolt.

Joe

By the windows?

Richard理查德

There are still shutters on the outside.

Joe

Fuck’s sake!

Sophia

Hello? Anyone?

Richard理查德

No one will hear you. Empty mansions, remember? No neighbours.

Sophia

Great, okay. Great!

Joe

Not a problem. Tris is probably still in the pub. We can get him to come around.

Sophia

We’re trapped in a haunted house, and you’re sending for your stoner mate?

Joe

Got a better plan?

Richard理查德

No proof it’s haunted.

Sophia

Spooky then.

Richard理查德

Yeah, yeah, a spooky house.

Joe

I can’t get a signal.

Sophia

Ah! That’s ridiculous! Me neither! The curse of Nothing Nowhere strikes again.. Useless network.

Richard 理查德

Snap.

Joe

Wait a second. The land line.

*dialing*

Joe

Okay, line’s dead.

Richard 理查德

What? But it just rang.

Joe

This is not happening, this really, really isn’t.

Sophia

Forget spooky, back to haunted.

Richard 理查德

Fire escape.

Joe

Huh?

Richard理查德

On the roof, I saw it outside, old iron one. We just have to get to the top of the house, then find a way onto the roof.

Sophia

What if it’s not safe?

Joe

I hate heights.

Richard 理查德

I love you both, but seriously, man up!

Sophia

I’m just saying.

Richard 理查德

Oh.

Sophia

No! Hear me out! What if there is another way out? One of the windows lower down could be open. I’d rather climb down one flight of unsafe steps than loads.

Richard 理查德

*Phone ringing* The phone! Get to the phone!

Sophia

Quickly!

Joe

What? that can’t... The line was dead.

Sophia

Pick it up!

*Picks up the phone* Hello? Listen! We need help! We’re trapped in... I don’t know... something mewsand...

*Deep breaths from the other side of the phone*

Hello?

Joe

What is it?

Sophia

Shut up! I’m trying to listen!

Joe

Don’t tell me to shut up.

Richard理查德

Joe!

Voice from the phone

No one in hou-(house), no one in hou-(house), no one in hou-(house)...

Sophia

I don't think they could hear me.

Voice from the phone

This is the house... there's no one now.

Sophia

Oh my god.

Voice from the phone

Don't leave me... I'll get to you.

Richard理查德

Fuck this.

Sophia

Stop that, Richard!

Joe

I can't take much more of this.

Sophia

Joe, come back! Great, he’s run off, happy now? Joe!

Richard 理查德

Yeah, happy? I'm scared.

Sophia

I'm scared!

Richard 理查德

It's not a competition.

Sophia

Come on, let's go get him.

Track 3

Joe

I just want to get home, that's all. Gotta get out of here, gotta get out... Oh thank god. Hello? Hello?

Voice from the phone

This is Dorian Gray. Don't leave me inhou-(house).

Joe

Ha, bad move, mate. If you can call me, that means I've got signal. Come on! Sake!

*Door opens* Hello?

Sophia

Joe?

Richard理查德

Joe?

Sophia

Joe! Why is he not answering? Joe!

Richard 理查德

He's a coward.

Sophia

I'm hardly winning calm.

Richard理查德

Yeah, well, we've got to. Acting like we're in a horror movie is no help in this. Acting like in half-an-hour's time we'll be laughing about this in McDonald’s, yes!

Sophia

You know, I've had a thought.

Richard 理查德

What?

Sophia

What about downstairs? Further downstairs. House like this is bound to have a cellar.

Richard理查德

But the fire escape is on the roof.

Sophia

Yeah, you said. And like I said, I still don't fancy it. But a cellar in a house might have a... coal scuttle?

Richard理查德

No, it's not the right word.

Sophia

You know what I mean. Coal thingy. Doors. For coal. In the cellar.

Richard理查德

It'll be full of rats?

Sophia

I don't care! Coming?

Richard理查德

No!

Sophia

Fine.

Joe

These shutters! Are they used to keep people out? Or to keep something in? Oh man, what I really need now is more wine.

Voice from the house

Hahahahaha... hahahahh

Joe

Come on, there has to be a way out of here! Who in song one, for god’s sakes! Not Hound of Baskervilles.*Phone ringing* Hello?

Voice from the phone

Interesting.

Joe

You can sod right off. What do you want? Who is this?

Voice from the phone

Know this, you are in hell.

Joe

Texting now? "I want your voice."

Sophia

Ah... It's even colder down here. Who the hell lived here anyway? This is like the junk of hundred years. Billiardtable, books... Some of these must have been worth something... once, before... something... ate them? Huh, Dickens, obviously. Sir Walter Scott, inevitably. Wilkie Collins, fine. And oh, a bit left field, Oscar Wilde. "To Dorian Gray, may my words outliveyou, Oscar." Well, either that's a joke, or I’ve just won eBay. Em, I'll keep you just in case. And a Jukebox, nice! Wonder if it still works.

Walking the town

bet you see me around in style, style.

Sophia

Huh! Groovy! Right then, time to find a way out of here.

It’s a sharp-dressed, god-blessed

Wonderful turn in the dial, dial.

I went down to town today…

Sophia

Ah! Who's there?

Track 4

Joe

I NEED YOUR VOICE. Okay, what is that, skip? You trying to tell me something? Well, listen, if there is anybody there, and sure, you're welcome to my voice. If there's a message you want to pass on the loved ones from, from beyond the grave...

*Phone ringing* "I have no loved ones, but thank you." Oh Richard this is you, isn't it? ‘Course it is. “I know an amazing place round the corner where we can break into.” Yeah. You planned all this, you git. And... Please tell me that's you over there, because if it isn't, I will literally crap myself.

Sophia

Oh, Richard! It's you!

Richard理查德

Yeah? Figured I'd join you. I wouldn’t let you walk home from a club alone, so why should I let you go down into a spooky cellar.

Sophia

Nothing to do with getting scared on your own?

Richard理查德

Not a thing. Found a way out yet?

Sophia

Nope. Several lifetimes’ worth of junk, but no way out.

Richard

Look, a wine rack.

Sophia

Really? Now?

Richard理查德

Oh come on, this place is ancient, used to belong to someone rich. I'm just figuring maybe as a souvenir? Joe would be thrilled.

Sophia

It's stealing!

Richard理查德

The bottles are empty, or smashed, there must have been looters. What a waste! I mean, I'm no expert, but some of this stuff is old. Nothing with a screw-cap or a picture of kangaroo on the label.

Sophia

Ah...

Richard理查德

You okay?

Sophia

I just... feel we shouldn't be here. It's like we're trespassing.

Richard理查德

We are trespassing.

Sophia

Yeah, I know, but you know, I just feel...

Richard理查德

Come on, this is a dead end, back upstairs?

Joe

Ahhhhh!

Sophia

Joe!

Richard理查德

Upstairs!

Sophia

Joe? Joe!

Richard理查德

Where are you mate?

Sophia

It's okay, Joe, you can come out! It's only us!

Richard理查德

*Phone ringing* Ah, oh, Jesus.

Sophia

It's him!

Richard理查德

How are you getting a signal?

Sophia

Joe? Joe! Are you okay? Joe? Joe?

Joe

First floor, front of the house, I could see it! Oh god, it's here in the shadows, please come find me! Hurry!

Sophia

Joe? What's... Joe! Damn it! Joe?

Richard理查德

Call him back!

Sophia

I'm trying! No signal again! He said he was at the front of the house. Which way is the front?

Richard理查德

That way! I... I think.

Joe

Ahhhhhh!

Sophia

In here. Look! There's something there!

Richard理查德

Joe's phone. Oh it's all wet, like...

Sophia

Blood. His blood, isn't it?

Richard理查德

Yeah, think so, maybe.

Sophia

Joe! Joe! Joe?

乔!乔!乔?

Richard理查德

He left it filming. His phone... was filming, look.

Joe

I can see it, over there, in the shadows. Oh my god, it is the shadows. It's here! You can see this, can't you? Can't you?

Voice of a man男人的声音

Hello, Joseph.

Joe

Ahhhhhhh!

Sophia

That’s… Oh… Is it still here do you think? Oh god…

Richard理查德

We have to get out of here, I’m going to the roof.

Sophia

And leaving Joe?

Richard理查德

As soon as we get out, we’ll call the police, alright?

Sophia

No! Not alright! I’m staying! God knows what’s happened to Joe! I’m going to find him. He needs our help!

Richard理查德

And that’s what I’m doing. I’m going to find help!

Sophia

Go on then, run away.

Richard理查德

I’ll come back, with help, promise!

Track 5

Richard理查德

An attic. Well, at least that means this place stops somewhere, I was beginning to worry. So, door to the fire escape, bound to be one here somewhere, got to be… Oh, in pride of place, an empty picture frame. I’m betting whatever you were was worth a packet, shame I got here too late. Bloody Romanians probably flocked you years ago, explains the smell. Oh fantastic! Skylight, this is it! You beauty, you beauty! Come on! I’d hate to be like this. I can see the roof. It’s just…out there. Why... won’t… you… open! *SMS ring* And of course, there’s signal in here… now then. Withheld number, what do you want?

“If you want to escape, leave me the girl.”

“Seriously?”

“Seriously. Leave the girl, I will get you out.”

Alright then, let’s do this. Give him what he wants, then get out call the police, yeah, they’ll understand.

Sophia! Sophia I need your help! Sophia! Sophia!

Sophia?

Sophia

Rich? Have you found Joe? I said have you found Joe? Rich?

Richard理查德

Yes! He’s up here!

Sophia

That’s great! Give me a sec.

*Phone ringing*

Man on the phone

He’s lying.

Sophia

Sorry, who is this?

Man on the phone

Your friend. He’s lying. He hasn’t found Joe, it’s a trap.

Sophia

Sorry, who is this exactly?

Richard理查德

Sophia, where are you?

Man on the phone

Hide, the cellar. Better safe than sorry.

Richard理查德

Sophia!

Man on the phone

He’s coming for you, Sophia! Run!

Sophia

Oh god… Oh god...

Richard理查德

Sophia? You down here? I’ve found Joe. He’s fine. But we need to get him to a hospital, he… he’s upstairs. Sophia… Sophia? Selfish cow, I’ll find her.

*Phone ringing*

Richard理查德

Oh, so there you are. You can come out now.

Man on the phone

Sophia, I can help you.

Richard理查德

Sophia, please, Joe really needs our help.

Sophia

You know what? I don’t believe you!

Richard理查德

Ahhhhh!

*Phone ringing*

Sophia

Who is this! Why do you keep on calling?

Man on the phone

I want to help you.

Sophia

Then call the police!

Man on the phone

I can’t. But listen to me, lock the door. There should be a chest of drawers close by.

Sophia

Uh… Uh… Ah!

Richard理查德

Sophia! Sophia let me out of here! I’m warning you, let me out!

Sophia

Now what?

Man on the phone

Go up to the attic as fast as you can.

Richard理查德

Can you hear me? Sophia! Sophia!

Man on the phone

Left, here.

Sophia

How do you even know where I’m going? Are you watching on CCTV or something?

Man on the phone

In a manner of speaking.

Sophia

Like some sort of reclusive millionaire?

Man on the phone

More or less. Very much less these days.

Sophia

Then look, I’m sorry that we broke in.

Man on the phone

It’s fine, but you should know there’s a reason that this house was boarded-up. It’s not a happy place.

Sophia

You can say that again.

Why are you helping me?

Man on the phone

Because you are young, Sophia.

Sophia

Uh… Okay.

Man on the phone

I’m going to do all I can to get you out of here, but, you have to trust me.

Sophia

Why? Well I don’t, just for the record.

Man on the phone

I don’t blame you.

Sophia

I just don’t fancy spending the whole night crouched behind a sofa.

Richard理查德

You won’t!

Sophia

Ah!

Richard理查德

You’ll have to speak to me now, my friend. Hello?

Man on the phone

Hello, Richard.

Richard理查德

Huh, I don’t think you can help her anymore, she’s dead to the world. I’ve got a promise to keep.

Man on the phone

Forget the promise. I can get you out of here.

Richard理查德

You can?

Man on the phone

The roof. You can get up there now! If you want to.

Richard理查德

You mean the fire escape?

Man on the phone

It’s open, you can leave.

Richard理查德

But, only if I leave her.

Man on the phone

That’s entirely up to you. I’m not going to stop you either way.

Track 6

Richard理查德

Wow, you were right, the view from up here.

Man on the phone

An expensive view.

Richard理查德

The nice night, all of London. King of the world!

Man on the phone

Oh I hate it when people do that.

Richard理查德

So, come on my friend, who are you? You own this place?

Man on the phone

It would be more accurate to say the house is my keeper.

Richard理查德

Yeah, don’t tell me, you work for some crazy Russian who owns this place but never visits, right?

Man on the phone

Oh I can assure you the owner is very keen to return.

Richard理查德

Wha-

Man on the phone

Ah-ah, mind your step now, won’t you? The tiles up here are slippery, heavy rain. But the fire escape should still be just ahead of you, I know this house like the back of my hand.

Richard理查德

Knew it! Said so from the beginning, if you want to get out, fire escape! Every home should have one.

Man on the phone

Yes, everyone should have an escape plan.

Richard理查德

Doesn’t feel very safe. Will this thing take my weight?

Man on the phone

It should perform its function admirably.

Richard理查德

And… Sophia, will she be alright?

Man on the phone

Mmm, do you even care?

Richard理查德

Well…

Woo, it’s a long way down.

Man on the phone

It’s a very long way to fall.

Richard理查德

Yeah, thanks for that. Actually, my friend, I’ll need both hands for this, so let’s end it there now, yeah? Thanks for all your help.

Man on the phone

Goodbye, Richard.

Richard理查德

I can see McDonald’s from here, brilliant. Wha- Ahhhhh!

Man on the phone

Poor fire escape, poor Richard.

Man on the phone

*Phone ringing* Wake up, Sophia.

Sophia

Aw… What happened?

Man on the phone

Hello again.

Sophia

Oh you. Whose phone is this?

Man on the phone

Richard’s, he left it behind, he’s gone now.

Sophia

Great. And Joe?

Man on the phone

He’s… still around.

Sophia

Like you? My mystery voice? Where are you?

Man on the phone

What is it they say? The call is coming from inside the house.

Sophia

Seriously, where are you? Are you a ghost? Wait, you’re the caretaker, aren’t you?

Man on the phone

Sort of.

Sophia

And that’s why you’re not phoning the police. Because this place is a bit dodgy?

Man on the phone

It is a curious house, loyal.

Sophia

Come on! Level with me! Is this place haunted?

Man on the phone

Not by ghosts.

Sophia

So, what we’ve encountered, what, were they all booby traps or something? Are you… sat in some room, pushing buttons?

Man on the phone

You could say that, if it makes you feel better.

Sophia

It doesn’t. Something weird’s on going here.

Man on the phone

Not at all, it’s the most natural thing in the world. The urge… to live, it’s a beautiful thing, Sophia, like you.

Sophia

Wow, just wow. When was the last time that chat-up line was used? Jack the Ripper?

Man on the phone

My apologies. My technique is a little rusty but, none of these is important, all that matters is getting you away from here. Now, head for the attic as I say. I have something to show you.

Sophia

*Deep breaths* You dodged my question before: is this house haunted? Yes or no?

Man on the phone

I think it’s fairer to say that it is an unhappy place. Bad things have happened here.

Sophia

Are you making excuses, for what’s been happening?

Man on the phone

You people trespassed. Steps were taken. That is all.

Sophia

But, we didn’t mean any harm. It’s not like we’re thieves.

Man on the phone

So? That book you stole?

Sophia

Oh, that! Oh here, keep it!

Man on the phone

There were signs outside, “Danger. Keep out.” And yet you ignored every warning. Here we go.

Track 7

Sophia

The attic. Is this where you hide out?

Man on the phone

Let’s just say you’re getting warmer.

Ah…

Sophia

What?

Man on the phone

Look up.

Sophia

The picture frame. There’s nothing in it. You know, there are no pictures in this house, at all.

Man on the phone

There were, once. And I would have liked for you to have seen this one. It was a portrait of a man who knew he was damned. The story goes that, as he knew one day he would end up in hell, he constructed a way out, a fire escape, if you will.

Sophia

And how did he do that?

Man on the phone

He made a more dangerous bargain. To restore his own life, he would have to offer several more. Four, would have been ideal. But three, three would suffice.

Sophia

Funny subject for a painting.

Man on the phone

Art’s like that.

Sophia

*Phone ringing* Hold on! I’ve got a video message.

Man on the phone

Don’t open it!

Sophia

It could be from Joe!

Man on the phone

It isn’t!

Sophia

No, you’re right, it’s from Richard! Probably down the pub. But no, this is his phone. How does that work?

Man on the phone

Sophia, don’t.

Video on the phone

“Dorian, Dorian! No! Dorian! Ahhhhh!”

*Sophia hits replay*

“Dorian, Dorian! No! Dorian! Ahhhhh!”

Sophia

I don’t understand. That’s me, in this room, right now. And there’s something, it looks like, someone standing behind me.

Man男人

Hello, Sophia. I wouldn’t turn around if I were you.

Sophia

You…

Man男人

Surprise. No, really, don’t turn around. I’m not a pretty sight.

Sophia

But who… Wait, this is the house of Dorian Gray? Is that who you are?

Old Dorian Gray老道连

I am.

Sophia

And that message?

Old Dorian Gray老道连

I told you not to open it.

Sophia

What was it?

Old Dorian Gray老道连

Just one of time’s warning echoes. You wouldn’t understand. Now, I need you to be brave for me, Sophia.

Sophia

You do?

Old Dorian Gray老道连

Oh yes. I want you to turn around and look at me. Promise, you won’t be scared now.

*Sophia breathing with fear*

Old Dorian Gray老道连

There we go.

Sophia

Oh my god… I mean, I’m sorry, what happened to you?

Old Dorian Gray

Life happened to me, and a lot of it.

Sophia

Is that why you hide away up here?

Old Dorian Gray老道连

What choice do I have? I was once considered beautiful, but then circumstances changed. My sins caught up with me, every wound inflicted by the owner of this house!

Sophia

We should get you to a hospital.

Old Dorian Gray老道连

Am I really that bad? It’s been so long.

Sophia

I’m sorry, but yes.

Old Dorian Gray老道连

Ah…

Sophia

I’m sorry. I don’t know what to say.

Old Dorian Gray

At least you can bear to look at me. Not many could. But could you do one thing for me? One final thing, before we leave.

Sophia

Sure.

Old Dorian Gray老道连

Hold me, please, it’s been so long.

Sophia

Okay.

Old Dorian Gray老道连

If you can’t stand to look at me any longer, look to the picture frame instead.

Sophia

The man with the fire escape?

Old Dorian Gray老道连

Yes. The four victims. He was always told that one would give him voice, one would give him body, and the third would give him youth. The fourth gift, would have given him a soul. But, well, he didn’t need that so much.

Sophia

Ah, you can let go of me now!

Old Dorian Gray老道连

I’m afraid I can’t. You see, as a very good friend (referring to Oscar Wilde) once told me, to get back one’s youth, one merely has to repeat one’s follies. What happened to me before took over a century, but I’m afraid, you have only seconds.

Sophia

What do you mean?

Old Dorian Gray老道连

Youth. Kiss me, Sophia.

Sophia

No, no! No! Get off me!

*Kissing noises*

Old Dorian Gray老道连

Ah… Ha ha ha…

Sophia

Dorian, Dorian! No! Dorian! Ahhhhh!

Dorian Gray

Hahahaha… *Door opened then closed*

Dorian Gray’s voicemail

Hello, this is the house of Dorian Gray. There’s no one in right now. Don’t forget to leave me a message. If you’re interesting, I’ll get back to you.
